Finding Passion in UX Design: A Journey from Sales to Creativity
I belong to a non-tech background. I'm a sales guy turned graphic designer and marketing manager.I'm 29 years old, and people are saying that I'm too old to make a bold move into UX design. They mention that the field isn't booming and that there are mass layoffs. However, I refuse to focus on such negative news.
Entering the world of Information Technology was a surprising turn for me, especially since I never thought I could understand any of it. Coming from a sales background, specifically in real estate, I was never truly satisfied with my work. The allure of easy money and abundant job opportunities initially drew me in, but I found myself regretting this choice 4-5 years later. While sales can be an exciting career, it often felt like I was a fish trying to fly in the air (though some fish do manage that).
Despite my dissatisfaction, my creativity never waned. My sales job taught me valuable lessons about human psychology, effective communication, and the importance of constantly improving client experiences. Whenever I felt frustrated by targets and discomfort in my career, I reminded myself that this knowledge could be useful elsewhere.
Eventually, my search for a more creative outlet led me to marketing. In my marketing role, I was introduced to graphic design. I began creating visuals and taking photographs, always driven by the curiosity instilled in me from my sales days about what users and clients think and how to enhance their experience.
As I continued designing, my interactions with people led me to discover the fascinating field of UI/UX. I fell in love with the concept of researching people, studying their behavior, and designing apps, websites, or experiences based on those insights. It perfectly combined my previous knowledge and practice with my passion for creativity.
While entering the world of Information Technology, a guy like me, who never thought he could understand any of it, has now started taking interest in UX and UI.Now that my journey has started and I have finally found something I am passionate about, I will give it my 100%. I will continue posting and writing about UI/UX in the future, hoping to motivate others. You might find your passion late, but when you do, chase it shamelessly and make the most out of it.
